Awesome Mississippi Lawmaker Sponsored Bill That Would Rename ‘Gulf of Mexico’ To ‘Gulf of America’
Philly.com – A Mississippi state lawmaker sponsored legislation this week that would rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America.” State Rep. D. Stephen Holland introduced the bill on Feb. 7. According to the bill, the moniker would apply only to his home state. Holland’s bill provides that: “For all official purposes within the State of Mississippi, the body of water that is located directly south of Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties shall be known as the Gulf of America … The act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2012.” Holland, a Democrat, is a farmer and funeral home director. He was not immediately available for comment.
I couldn’t agree with this move more, Mississippi state representative D. Stephen Holland. Mexicans are taking all of our jobs, flooding our streets with drugs and violence, yet still expect us to acknowledge their name on OUR Gulf? When it’s obvious that our beautiful shores of freedom are the best thing bordering their little body of water to begin with? Please. Nice to see somebody in one of those state houses finally get this right.
Best part about this: it was a Democrat that proposed it. Not some stereotypical Mexican-hating southern conservative looking to throw up 6 electric super-fences between here and Mexico, no. Just your everyday liberal farmer/funeral home director-turned Mississippi state politician doing his best to bring justice to the shores of America. Keep up the fight, Stephen. Doesn’t matter if the new name is only acknowledged in one state. Future generations are counting on you.
Viva Gulf of America!

This seems like a productive endeavor to focus energy on
exhibit A why this country will look like the Terminator movies post-Skynet becoming self-aware: people losing their houses, everyone losing their jobs, and an exponential increasing budget deficit but our elected officials find the time do shit like this and try and re-name bodies of water instead of fixing the real problems
It increases pride and morale as long as this wasn’t a long drawn out decision sounds good to me.
what a fucking idiot. Spend some time fixing the fact that your state ranks lowest on educational, employment and is shit condition. Waste of fucking time from these Jesus freak assholes.
The true wastes of time and downfall of the country is the fact that congress is worried about steroids and spygate and other sports related issues.
We need to change New Mexico to new ‘merica! Canada should be North ‘merica and french fries should be ‘merica fries! America Fuck Yea!
They are in bad shape toropen but they are not ranked lowest in unemployment. washington DC, Nevada, California, and Rhode Island are all worse than Mississippi. They are also not the lowest High school graduation rate.
“It increases pride and morale”? Really? Because this actually embarrasses me.
Should be the “Gulf of ‘Merica” just kinda rolls off the tongue better.
reminds me of the story about the mississippi congressman who proposed that we change the value of pi from 3.14 to 3.5 to make things easier for everyone
Had a republican said this, the comment section would be a debate about immigration. Fucking hypocrites.
had the guy been a republican, the comment section would have been praising this guy, and calling obama a nig
@pedro… Not at all you and your liberal little buddies woulda been all over it saying how much of a racist this guy is if he were a republican.
