csn – The Eagles came one step closer to clinching their first NFC East title since 2010, and they didn’t even play. By virtue of the Dallas Cowboys getting destroyed 45-28 on Monday night by the Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago, the Eagles took sole possession of first place in the division with just three weeks left in the regular season. Dallas and the Eagles had entered this week with identical records, but the Eagles won their Sunday game against the Lions and moved to 8-5 while the Cowboys fell to 7-6. The Eagles now control their own destiny. If they win out, starting with Sunday’s road game against the Vikings, they will finish 11-5. The best the Cowboys can finish is 10-6.
Look at how beautiful that division lead looks. And here I was thinking that the Birds would need 11 wins to get into the playoffs — how could I forget about Dallas in December? This is what they do.
On behalf of all Eagles fans I just want to share my love of everything Chicago and crown Bears fans as our official best friends for two weeks until we play December 22. I’ll eat a complicated hot dog, maybe some deep dish pizza, listen to the Blues Brothers, bribe a politician, and watch at least 10 minutes of Jordan highlights on YouTube. It’s the least I can do.
Oh, and don’t get upset if we also become best friends with Green Bay if they can beat the Cowboys next week. Sense a conflict of interest there.
