sunsentinelInterviewed for a special that will run Monday at 8 p.m. on NBA TV, Jordan said he currently views Bryant as having the more successful career to this point than James. “If you had to pick between the two, that would be a tough choice,” Jordan, now owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, told program host Ahmad Rashard, “but five beats one every time I look at it.” Bryant has won five championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, with James winning his first NBA title last June. Jordan, of course, won six championships with the Chicago Bulls. “And not that he won’t get five,” Jordan said of James. “He may get more than that, but five is bigger than one.” Told of Jordan’s view regarding Bryant, James left the conjecture to others. “That doesn’t matter to me,” he said. “If you take Kobe one and then I go second . . . it doesn’t matter. I don’t really get too involved about what guys say about me, or if you take Kobe or if you take LeBron. “As long as I’m on the floor and I try to make plays for my teammates, I don’t do what I do for other people’s approval.”

Let it be known that I’m personally a huge fan of all three of these guys, so unlike a lot of people at this site I don’t have some vendetta against any of them. Yet let’s be honest: LeBron was lying his ass off in this interview.

See, one of the biggest reasons why Kobe Bryant is (and will forever be) higher on my personal favorite athletes list is because he (like Jordan) legitimately doesn’t care what other people think. LeBron SAYS he doesn’t do what he does “for other people’s approval”, but any sports fan that has been watching the guy’s career can tell you that’s a lie. LeBron LOVES attention and acceptance, and until only recently couldn’t operate effectively without it. It took him a full year to get over being disliked after The Decision, and while he can claim to being a different person since then, one doesn’t remake their entire personality over a few years. Sure he can play effectively and efficiently without everyone loving him, but that doesn’t mean he still doesn’t like or desire that feeling.

Kobe — he don’t give no fucks. Jordan — he don’t give no fucks. LeBron — definitely cares what people think. “That doesn’t matter to me.” Yeah, okay LeBron. That’s why your cell phone wallpaper is a photoshop of you and MJ.
