pftAsked in an interview on the Jets’ website if there’s a certain completion percentage benchmark that he’ll need his quarterback to reach, Mornhinweg answered, “No, absolutely not.” Mornhinweg went on to say that he has seen quarterbacks have great seasons without great completion percentages. “Some of the great ones have really not thrown for such great accuracy,” Mornhinweg said. “Steve Young was astronomical accuracy-wise. Brett Favre wasn’t. Brett Favre, I believe won an MVP two different times out of the three times that he won it, throwing 58, 59, 60 percent, somewhere in there. So they all come in different shapes and sizes.” For the record, in the three seasons that Favre was MVP he completed 63.0, 59.9 and 59.3 percent of his passes. In four NFL seasons Sanchez has never completed more than 56.7 percent of his passes.

Limiting myself to words makes it difficult to fully explain to Jets fans exactly what they’re in for. It’s like all Eagles fans were trapped in the back of a car being driven by Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg, and year after year they would plant their foot on the gas and slam our promising car-season into a brick wall. Year after year for over a decade. 4th and 1 on the goalline? Let’s pass the ball and slam this car into the wall. “T.O. is asking for too much money even though he played in the Super Bowl on a broken leg, let’s not pay him.”  Into the wall.  “Maybe they haven’t seen this split backs shovel pass play we’ve been running every year since the 90′s.” WALL.

Now finally they get out of the car…and the Jets bring Marty in be to one of their drivers? NO SENSE. Mark Sanchez ain’t ready to pass the ball 40 times a game. Accuracy doesn’t matter. HA — you assholes are in trouble.

“Those guys that throw for a little bit less accuracy typically are generating a little bit bigger plays on occasion. There’s a little bit of a tradeoff there,” Mornhinweg said.

Oh my God how happy are you that you don’t have to listen to that bullshit anymore? Thank you, Chip. Thank you for going Science over Tradition.
