mlive – DETROIT, MI – Despite being near the end of a 30-day suspension from ESPN’s “First Take” show, Detroit sports personality Rob Parker had a busy weekend giving commentary on Metro Detroit’s TV airwaves. And Parker’s work for Detroit WDIV-TV included an explanation Sunday on anchor Devin Scillian’s “Flashpoint” show why he delivered a racially-charged rant on ESPN’s “First Take” show last month that led to his suspension. That rant on ESPN’s “First Take” show, one Parker told Scillian production crews knew about before it was to air, included direct criticism of Griffin’s “blackness” and created a national sports controversy that sparked debate about race in sports, Parker’s ethics and the network’s programming. “It was never to condemn the young man,” Parker said of his rant, one he now says he regrets. “RG3 is a great young man with a bright future. (The rant) was more about concerns than condemning.” Video of Parker’s interview with Scillian can be found on WDIV’s website (go to the 2:35 mark for the start of it). When pressed on the matter by Scillian, Parker said his criticism of RG3 stems from “conversations that’s had in the black community when athletes and famous entertainers or whatever push away from their people.” “And that’s really what it’s about. You saw with O.J. Simpson and some other people where they said ‘Well, I’m not black, I’m O.J,’” Parker explained. “So it’s more about that, not about RG3 and what’s going on. “It’s more about this thing that we’ve battled for years – why people have pushed away from their people. It’s more about that.”

You remember what happened. How this guy is still able to make a living talking about sports goes to show you how great and awful America can be. Dude should be praying to Jesus (or Black Jesus if God’s Son ever legitimizes himself by braiding his hair) that ESPN let him keep his job. And now he’s pulling the “out of context” card? What part was out of context? The part where he called out a 22 year-old kid on national TV for not being black enough because he has a white girlfriend? If Rob was white he would have been fired…into space. Rob Parker needs to be smarter about this whole thing, take the blame, appreciate that he’s still employed, and shut the fuck up.

RGIII has “pushed away from his people”? By dating a white girl and having conservative views? Last time I checked dating white women, supporting gun ownership, and loving Jesus were HEAVILY embraced by “our people”. Why don’t you focus your “concern” for this intelligent millionaire elsewhere.  Like your haircut and face.
