Can he play goal?
Stupid. Almost as ludicrous as giving Parise 13 years, $98 mil
Weber is the best defenseman in hockey right now. Nashville might match this offer though, so as a Flyers fan I learned long ago to never celebrate until…well I’m still waiting for that part.
umm i think the league decided that karlsson is the best defenseman in the league. kidding obviously
I hear Bernie Parent is available.
Weber is not better than Chara in any aspect of the game and his cap hit is going to be for almost a million bucks more.
flyers basically created two scenarios here. the first is the preds resign him for this amount (like they probably will) and the whole chances of weber going to any team including the flyers for the rest of his career is quashed within the week. option 2 is he signs with the flyers for this horrible contract and the flyers under the new cba (whenever it comes) will have hardly any cap space to go after any significant contributers for the next 15 years thanks to this and bryzs bad contracts and the fact that under the new cba’s realistic guidelines, the contract they will have to inevitably give giroux if they want him to reup when that time comes will have to be a big cap hit, big money, short term deal. either way, flyers lose. kind of like every scenario in hockey. you keep doing you philadelphia
Just because you’re a Flyers fan does not make Weber the best defenseman in the league, because he isn’t, and it doesn’t make this a good deal, because it’s not.
also i didnt even mention that as a result, if nashville doesnt sign him and the flyers then do, the flyers will have to give FOUR FIRST ROUND PICKS to nashville in exchange. so thats 14 years, 110+ million dollars and FOUR first round picks for one defenseman. yeah you philly fans should be pretty excited, huh?
If I’m the Nashville GM, I let Weber walk and take the picks and have 8 first rounders over the next four years. He’s not worth that kind of money, and clearly they have good scouts if they were able to draft Suter and Weber. I’m sure one of those 8 picks will turn into a stud
retards complaining about the 4 1st rounders, our teams boasts schenn, coots, read, voracek, giroux and plenty other young talent. We’re built for the future, adding weber would completely solidify our back end and the 4 1st rounders could be re-uped at some point down the line. homer is the man if he pulls this off.
First Homer trades away Carter and Richards who go on to win the Cup with Dean Lombardi (who lets all remember Ed Snider fired). Voracek was god awful in the playoffs. I feel bad for Giroux. He’s the one who deserves the 14 year deal and Holmgren busted his nut prematurely. Homer has whatever the opposite of the Midas Touch is
Flyers fans are so dilusional its funny. Good defenseman, AWFUL Contract. Rangers will own you anyway.
All the stoolies out there saying that the contract is cap-killing, it’s ridiculously front-loaded…nearly half of that salary (56 mil) is being given to him in the first four years of the 14 year deal. The flyers would still be able to resign grioux to a hefty contract at the end of 2014 as long as he doesn’t demand too much of the money up front (two years of weber’s high salary remaining at that point). And if we’re making deep runs (or winning stanley cups, i’m fairly certain giroux won’t mind waiting two more years for his payday)
@dstewart1980, won’t the rangers have to make it out of the first round first in order to “own” us?
@the wetbandits,
just because a contract is front-loaded doesn’t mean anything. the cap hit is the cap hit. Kovalchuk’s contract with NJ expires in like 13 years when he’s in his 40s and his cap hit will still be almost 7 mil a season even though he’s only going to be making like a mil a year by then
this deal is so flyers. philly just doing what philly does. hilarious.
Gotta love all these comments from Rangers fans acting like Weber is some scrub that wont help the Flyers blueline. Keep living in LA LA land. If Queen Lundqist didnt have this amazin yr, the rangers would be garbage. Your team cant score goals. You werent even in top 10 for most goals. Keep thinkin the Flyers arent as good as the Rangers because your in for a rude awakening.
Rangers are so bad, it took them 7games to eliminate the senators and 7 games to beat the capitals. You guys r real good lol oh yea @rexisfat…that joke was cool as cancer
Whoever said Chara is better than Weber is hilarious. Only Dman out there I’d rather have would have been Lidstrom. Besides, Weber is only 26 (going on 27) years old. With the cap increasing at the rate it is, in 4 years this will look like a steal. Keep in mind, Danny Briere’s 6.5 (in a 38M cap) was like paying a guy 11M/yr now…yet 6.5 isn’t nearly elite today.
Chara is better. It’s not even an argument. He has a cup, more points, harder shot, his +/- is always better. He’s a first ballot HOFer. Weber has a lot more to prove before he can enter the HOF conversation
