philly.com – A Drexel University student has been charged with a misdemeanor for driving his BMW down the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art last month. Emin Faki, 20, was arrested Thursday and charged with recklessly endangering another person, according to court records. He was released on his own recognizance with a court date set for Dec. 18. The episode was recorded on video and went viral on the Internet. Faki can be seen driving the BMW gingerly down the steps in a zigzag pattern, then speeding off after he reaches the bottom. He later told police that his brakes had failed. Police had said that Faki could be charged with felony vandalism for damaging the steps.
By the sound of this kid’s name I imagine him to be some rich Persian asshole, but it’s hard to imagine even with the charges it wasn’t completely worth it. One little felony that this BMW-driving 20 year-old’s dad’s lawyer can make disappear in a week for the chance to brag about driving down the Museum of Art’s steps for the rest of your life? Undoubtedly worth it. Even if Emin Faki has to explain this felony to a potential employer when he’s older it won’t be a problem. Saying “On a dare I drove my car down the Rocky steps in Philadelphia” can only help land him that job. Shows guts and leadership. Not even mad at him.
